A haven of elegance and culinary tradition in the heart of Rome, brought to you by the Fedeli family in Trastevere: the Sottosopra restaurant
In the heart of the Eternal City
The Fedeli family, a lineage of Italian restaurateurs with over 70 years of culinary tradition and a solid reputation in the sector, opened this venue ten years ago in the heart of Trastevere, run by sisters Romina and Kattiusca. This venture also opened in Callejón de Jorge Juan in Madrid, offering a unique Mediterranean dining experience. The aim is to offer the utmost in Italian hospitality in a city renowned as a historic temple of gastronomy; their sole objective is to make you feel right at home.
Sottosopra is the result of the union of two generations, blending the traditional vision of the past with an innovative approach. The aim was to recreate the atmosphere that surrounded Katiuscia and Romina during their childhood.
A true love story
Sottosopra was born out of a love at first sight for a hidden corner of Trastevere, which inspired sisters Katiuscia and Romina to create a place where the past and the future come together. This restaurant is a tribute to their childhood, to family tradition and to the timeless beauty of Rome. Here, every detail is carefully attended to.
The restaurant enjoys an idyllic location in the Trastevere neighbourhood, featuring elegant décor and a private terrace situated on the upper level of the restaurant, overlooking Piazza Trilussa, where you can enjoy a romantic dinner under the stars or a lunch during the day. The design combines modern elements with classic touches, featuring an aesthetic inspired by Provençal style, in keeping with a highly sophisticated culinary offering.
Roman cuisine reinvented with a modern twist
The menu includes classics such as elaborate dishes like pasta with pecorino and guanciale, staying true to tradition. Cappellaccio cacio e pepe with spuma alla carbonara is the undisputed signature dish. It consists of pasta stuffed with cacio e pepe, served with a carbonara foam and crispy guanciale (pork jowl).
Tonnarelli all’Amatriciana: fresh pasta with tomato sauce, crispy guanciale and pecorino cheese. Homemade gnocchi with lamb ragù, served with its own sauce and a pecorino cheese fondue.
Furthermore, the restaurant is known for welcoming its guests with a stick of butter that melts to be spread on freshly baked bread, a touch that marks the start of the dining experience.
Other specialities include rack of lamb prepared with honey, tarragon and lemon, accompanied by baby vegetables; Saltimbocca alla romana, veal with Parma ham and sage rolled in a cream cheese sauce; and tiramisu, considered one of the house’s finest desserts, made to the traditional Italian recipe.

The heart and soul of Sottosopra is its team. Under the leadership of sisters Romina and Katiuscia, every member brings a unique passion for gastronomy and hospitality.
