The Almudaina Royal Palace hosted the event to welcome the winning teams of this 44th edition, with His Majesty finishing as runner-up.
The event brought together a broad representation of Balearic institutional and sporting figures. Among the authorities in attendance were Marga Prohens, President of the Government of the Balearic Islands; Jaime Martínez, Mayor of Palma; Gabriel Le Senne, President of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands; Llorenç Galmés, President of the Council of Mallorca; Rafael Gil, President of the Royal Yacht Club of Palma; and Joaquín González, President of the Balearic Sailing Federation. Elena Sanz, CEO of Mapfre Iberia, and Ricardo Esteban, General Commander of the Balearic Islands
After a week of spectacular sailing in the Bay of Palma, the Copa del Rey Mapfre once again brought together some of the leading national and international sailing crews. The 44th edition was marked by intense competition between the different classes and the presence of teams from various countries.
The champions of the 44th Copa del Rey Mapfre were the Spanish teams Teatro del Soho San Miguel in the Uber ORC B class, Nadir in the ClubSwan 42 class, and Baleària Team RCNP in the Baleària Women’s Cup; the Italian team Vudu in the Abanca ORC 0 class; the German team Niramo in the Azulmarino ORC C class; and the Estonian team Nola in the Sail Racing ORC A class.
The Hispania, the big new addition this season, did not disappoint. A particularly special triumph for the monarch, who was visibly moved and more than satisfied during the awards ceremony. After more than 20 years competing with the Aifos, Felipe VI has begun a new chapter aboard this state-of-the-art TP52, acquired by the Spanish Navy.
Also receiving championship awards in the Corinthian division (all-amateur crew) were L’Immens in Uber ORC B and the German Meerblick, skippered by Gabrielle Pohlmann, in Azulmarino ORC C. Both the champions and the runners-up and third-place finishers in each class received their trophies from King Felipe. Among the award winners was the Hispania, from the Spanish Navy’s Naval Regatta Commission, as runner-up in the highly competitive Abanca ORC 0 class. King Felipe, who skippered the team for much of the week, presented the trophy to Admiral Jaime Rodríguez-Toubes.
The 44th Copa del Rey Mapfre thus concludes another edition with the Nola as overall champion, in a competition that once again established Mallorca and the Bay of Palma as one of the premier sailing destinations during the summer.
