AT HOME WITH NICOLA MORRISSEY
CEO of Nero Drinks Company, her husband John and son Sean to tell us how her family business is going from strength to strength.
Tell us about Nero Premium Vodka?
Nero Premium Vodka is made using British potatoes which creates a beautiful velvety liquid, slightly sweet from the potato starch which is delicious sipped neat or my preference in a gorgeous, luxurious cocktail!
We are delighted to have been awarded 8 gold industry awards in the last 18 months. We are also proud to have been recognised as a vegan product by the Vegan Society who stringently check all products and process adhere to their high recognition standards.
We launched Nero Premium Vodka Spain in December 2021 at the beautiful 5 star Puente Romano hotel, the perfect venue to showcase Nero Premium Vodka. The staff, service, food and ambience were spectacular and it was a roaring success. The launch was attended by distributors, media, hospitality owners and retailers, the feedback was unbelievable and since then we’ve gone from strength to strength.
The pandemic has been challenging for entrepreneurs, how has it affected business for you?
As a family we have good health, a beautiful place to live where we can spend lots of time outdoors and by the sea, we feel very lucky and count our blessing.
From a business point of view, it has been very challenging for lots of businesses especially those in and connected to the hospitality industry. Venues have been opening and closing, facing restrictions and then the lower tourist numbers.
However, I try to stay optimistic and we have thrown ourselves into fully working with local venues, retailers and charities and it is paying off. It has brought us real opportunities. Our approach has been to offer venues a brand experience, obviously with Nero Vodka being the central show piece supported by our own mixologists, spectacular music and entertainment. I’m extremely proud of how hard the Nero team worked this summer and the brand recognition this gained.
We love working with the great and diverse hospitality sector here in Marbella and are stocked in some of the leading venues along the coast including Ocean Club, La Sala Group, Breathe and The Metro Group to name just as few. Also, this year we were delighted to secure a listing in the newly refurbished, flagship, Gourmet Club in El Corte Ingles, Puerto Banus. This is just the start for Nero Drinks Company and we have even bigger plans for 2022!
You talk of bigger plans, what does 2022 hold for Nero Drinks Company and the Morrissey family?
A busy year for sure! Nero Drinks Company will continue to support and work with local venues, adding more to our client list as well as launching in Mallorca, Tenerife, the UK and we are finalising plans to launch in America!
We are also opening an exclusive, 5 star wellness retreat overlooking the sea in La Cala. We have been busy overseeing the luxury building project, gathering an expert team to deliver the latest therapies and treatments. We will have a full time nutritionist, inhouse yoga and meditation specialist, colonic hydrotherapy, cryotherapy and lots more. We are due to open in April 2022 and booking are already rolling in.
Wow, you certainly have been busy! How do you strike a work life balance?
The family always comes first and that is my driving force. Everything John and I do is to provide a happy and secure life for Sean and our family. I love our business but my favourite job is being a mum to Sean.
Having said that when you are passionate about your business succeeding it’s difficult not to bring work into home life! Like many couples with businesses, John and I sometimes disagree but we respect each others opinion understand that we are both working towards the same goal of success!
John and I try to arrange trips away with Sean where we switch off and enjoy family time. This year we’ve made the most of the beautiful places on our doorstep with trips to Malaga, Sancti Petri, Tarifa and Seville. It also allows us to check out other venues we can work with along the coast!
And now a question for Sean, can you think of four words to describe your mum?
Strict! Kind, hardworking and beautiful.
