ALL IN RED

The favourite colour of Hollywood actresses

Red is the colour of love and passion, which is why red roses are given on Valentine’s Day. Those who choose to wear this colour are not afraid of being the centre of attention. Many actresses dress in red at important events, such as the Oscars or film premieres, where celebrities flaunt Hollywood glamour in outfits that are as chic as they are sexy.

The world of cinema has made this colour historic with the iconic dresses that have been featured on the silver screen. From Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes to Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, red is one of Hollywood’s strongest bets.

Actresses dare to wear this vivid colour knowing that it suits all skin types, as it brightens paler complexions as well as enhancing a tan. Those who wear red convey self-confidence, sensuality and a unique vitality. It is a colour that instantly empowers women and gives them positive energy, which is something actresses use to their advantage.

Hollywood’s emblematic colour

Red is a bold, powerful colour. It is proven to have an influence on the person who wears it, even helping to increase their pulse rate and blood pressure; physical effects that are undoubtedly reflected in their attitude. That is why it has been Hollywood’s emblematic colour since time immemorial, and is one of the reasons why many actresses choose red gowns, tailored by the best brands and the most prestigious designers, for the big galas.

Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Charlize Theron, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence or Sandra Bullock have all chosen this colour at some point in order to look their best on the red carpet. And the fact is that it suits the younger generations, like Zendaya,  as much as the veteran actresses, like Sophia Loren or Jane Fonda, who look spectacular in their red gowns.

A style for every occasion

What distinguishes the different models is the style of the designer who creates them. One of the most memorable dresses is the one Charlize Theron wore at the 2016 Oscar gala. A glam-inspired Dior design with a train and plunging neckline, which the actress paired with a Harry Winston necklace.

There are those who prefer classic strapless cuts, like Natalie Portman, who wore a 1954 Christian Dior haute couture evening dress at the 84th Annual Academy Awards, leaving the audience awestruck by its simplicity and its eye-catching style.

In 2019, Zendaya wore an original dress with a red top for the Spider-Man film premiere. Designed by Armani, and sculpting her exquisite figure, it certainly made heads turn.

Adriana Lima, Olivia Wilde, Brie Larson, Freida Pinto and the models Heidi Klum or Naomi Campbell, among others, have also worn vibrant gowns to walk the red carpet, demonstrating that red is the go-to colour of Hollywood.

If you choose a red dress and dare to emulate the most famous actresses on an evening as special as that of Valentine’s Day, you will be opting for a timeless, flattering colour that never goes out of fashion. Your face will instantly light up and you will feel powerful and attractive at the same time. Elegance, sensuality and glamour. All in red. A real show-stopper.
