Short interview with JN, design director of AALTO Exclusive design:
TIPS TO DRESS UP A DINING TABLE.
Can you share with us some tips on how to decorate a hose for Xmas?
Christmas, which ever country you are in, is meant to be the cosy relaxing time of the year everybody looks forward to. We can always bring the coziness by adding simple small details you don’t have normally during the year such a bigger set of candles or various light decorations, soft throws and cushions, fresh flowers arrangements in certain colors to match with your Xmas tree or a house perfume that evokes Xmas.
In my home I go the extra mile to decorate the house, as I have a special Christmas bedding set in darker colors and fur throws to evoke winter, different cushions set for sofa etc.
Are there any trends in Xmas decoration and if yes, what would they be?
Yes, absolutely. As in fashion or interior design, there are also Xmas trends, although I believe many families have their own “green/red/gold” combo they wont change.
Interior design trends that are being “extended” to Christmas décor include all sorts of lighting garlands that can be used not only as a tree decor, but also as natural pale wood décor and pale pastels, especially warm ones like orange or ochre. What is more and more visible is layering of unexpected decors in a tree, such as artificial flowers, berries or branches, toys or oversized items such as ribbons.
What would be your tips to dress up a dining table?
Something trendy would be to use blue hue in combination with warm accents, blues or blue-greens work very well with burnt orange that is very in nowadays. Apart from dining table sets you can add extra colors by using vases that are contrasting with fresh flowers in various colors and heights, bowls with fruits or vegetables, xmas décor items, contrasting napkins etc.
For elegant dining, something that never goes out of fashion is to mix metallics and whites. All you need to add is candles, fresh flowers and some interesting underplates.
