New tunnel, improved roads, expanded parking and Hole 64 mark the latest phase of upgrades at the Costa del Sol golf and lifestyle destination.

La Cala Resort has completed the latest phase of its guest experience improvements, with the opening of a new access tunnel, new road infrastructure, additional parking spaces and Hole 64.

Set in the hills above the Costa del Sol and home to 63 holes of golf, La Cala has opened the new facilities as part of a continued programme of improvements designed to make each visit smoother, easier and more enjoyable.

The latest phase forms part of a €5m infrastructure project covering new parking, roads and the tunnel, following the recent completion of significant hotel upgrades across the resort. The openings were marked at a formal event attended by guests, media, local government representatives and invited dignitaries.

The new tunnel, road infrastructure and parking improvements have been created to improve access and connectivity between key areas of La Cala, helping guests and golfers move around the resort more safely and efficiently. The works include a new ring road, two roundabouts and a 50-metre tunnel linking the América and Europa courses, while the car park has been expanded from 173 to 333 spaces, with a new lift providing direct access to both floors of the Golf Clubhouse and The Golf Shop.

Additional buggy paths have also been added across the Asia Course, further improving movement around one of Southern Europe’s most complete golf resorts.

Hole 64 adds a new rest and refreshment space on the Asia Course, with a terrace, grab-and-go service and 24-hour vending. Designed as a relaxed place to pause during the day, it gives golfers and guests another convenient way to enjoy the resort before, during or after a round.

Sean Corte-Real, General Manager at La Cala Resort, said: “La Cala has always been known for the breadth of its golf and resort offering, but our focus is on how that experience feels for every guest.

“These improvements are about making the day flow better — from the moment guests arrive, to the way they move between courses, enjoy the clubhouse areas and spend time with us beyond the golf course.

“The completion of this latest phase, including the new tunnel, road infrastructure, additional parking and Hole 64, is another important step in our long-term investment programme and reflects our commitment to improving the resort while preserving the character and atmosphere that make La Cala so special.”

The improvements come during a period of growing recognition for La Cala, which was recently ranked 56th in Golf World’s new Top 100 Luxe Resorts in Europe.

The ranking celebrates golf destinations that combine excellent golf with premium accommodation, dining, amenities and overall resort experience. In its review, Golf World praised La Cala’s newly refurbished hotel as “superb”, described the spa as “one of the best around”.

For La Cala, the recognition reflects the impact of continued investment and its growing reputation as a destination that offers far more than a traditional golf break.

With three 18-hole courses, a 9-hole Short Course Par 3, hotel, spa, restaurants, real estate, holiday rentals and extensive leisure facilities, La Cala is designed for golfers, couples, families, homeowners and holidaymakers looking for a complete Mediterranean resort experience.

The resort is also preparing for one of the most important weeks in its recent history, when it hosts the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho from 26 to 29 November.

The tournament is the final event of the Ladies European Tour season, with the top 75 qualified players set to compete on Campo Europa as the European women’s professional golf season reaches its conclusion. For guests, it will offer a rare opportunity to watch many of the continent’s leading players compete at a resort they can also experience for themselves.

Corte-Real added: “Recognition from Golf World, combined with the forthcoming Ladies European Tour season finale, shows the momentum building around La Cala. Our responsibility now is to keep improving, keep investing and ensure every part of the resort experience reflects the standard our guests expect.
