CRISTMAS DECORATIONS
One of the main attractions at this time of the year, are the marvellous decorations that adorn the shop windows from all over the city. Stores spend the whole year arranging them and during these days, they forget about sales just to surprise and awe everyone who wants to visit them.
Walking down 5th Avenue will delight luxury and shopping lovers, but also those who just want to find the most spectacular shop windows of the city. Stores like Tiffany’s, Bergdorf Goodman or Bloomingdale’s attract thousands of people each year, curious about discovering the surprises they might have prepared. This window displays are already a Christmas classic in New York.
ROCKEFELLER CENTER
If there is one iconic picture of New York’s Christmas it is the 28-meter-high tree that stands at Rockefeller Center, with 8km of lights that surround it and the impressive Swarovki star that shines on top of this spectacular fir. Its fame is so big, that the Tree Lighting Ceremony is broadcasted on TV every year, and it’s always accompanied by musical performances.
Thousands of people gather around it to admire this beautiful show. Its twelve light angels with their bronze trumpets have become a compulsory stop for those who want to admire Manhattan’s Christmas decorations, and just a few steps away from it, travellers will find a magical music and lights show. Just behind Rockefeller Center, in front of the Radio City Music Hall, the emblematic giant Christmas balls can be found. Christmas atmosphere is all over this place!

ICE SKATING
At the foot of Rockefeller Center’s Christmas tree we can find another one of the greatest attractions of the Big Apple, the most classical and known ice rinks of the city, the so-called Ice Rink. Thousands of tourists and New Yorkers slide in this skating rink, that has been the setting for many movies.
Although it is not the only place to enjoy this winter activity. Hidden between huge buildings, Bryant Park’s ice rink, The Pond, is filled with charm and surrounded by little Christmas stalls and a gorgeous lighting.
Last but not least, in the heart of Manhattan, next to Central Park, a beautiful ice rink can be found, Wollman Rink. Its biggest perk is the amazing views of the city’s skyline that can be admired from the ice. Known by New Yorkers and tourists, it’s the biggest skating rink and it offers a unique and magical setting to skate in.
CHRISTMAS MARKETS
Christmas markets are a must of this time of the year, and New York couldn’t be any less. Bryant Park, Grand Central, Columbus Circle and Union Square are, among many others, a compulsory stop during Christmas. The most popular one of them might be the Winter Village, located in Bryant Park. Dominated by a beautiful tree, Christmas carols and the smell of hot chocolate grant it a very special atmosphere. More than 100 stalls provide a great variety a products, from Christmas ornaments to food, in addition to jewellery and clothes. Being the biggest one of the city, it will take us to a winter wonderland between Manhanttan’s skyscrapers.
At Grand Central Terminal another of the most visited ones can be found, the Holiday Fair at Grand Central. With over 1 million visitors per day, is one of the only covered markets, so in order to visit it, it won’t be necessary to face the cold temperatures. Its 40 craftwork stalls, filled with toys and ornaments, are made with local materials, so it is another reason to visit this marvellous station!
Columbus Circle, the smallest and most charming of them all, is located on the south east of Central Park and if handcraft products are what we are looking for, the Union Saquare Holiday Market is the chosen one; the most classical version of a Christmas market can be found in here, with its famous and delicious sweets! Those looking for unique and original presents are on a lucky roll! The famous Christmas in New York shop is in Little Italy, and it has over 1.200m dedicated only to all kind of Christmas decorations.
