ELM - Día Internacional del Jazz

On 30 April, to mark International Jazz Day, El Café de La Ópera will host a unique evening paying tribute to the great figures of jazz from two perspectives: male and female.

Under the themes “HE PLAYS JAZZ” and “SHE PLAYS JAZZ: A Tribute to the Great Voices of Jazz”, the venue will bring together two live performances starring Juan Robles and Karla Silva, on a musical journey through the history of the genre via its most iconic performers and composers.

Located opposite the Teatro Real, this iconic Madrid venue thus reinforces its commitment to live music with an experience that combines talent, history and emotion, showcasing the richness of contemporary jazz through a unique narrative.

Two sessions, two unique experiences

The event will be divided into two sessions:

  1. 7.00 pm – 9.00 pm | Juan Robles – HE PLAYS JAZZ
  2. 9.30 pm – 11.00 pm | Karla Silva – SHE PLAYS JAZZ

Tickets cost €20 and include one drink, offering a complete cultural and gastronomic experience in an intimate and exclusive setting.

Juan Robles

Juan Robles presents “HE PLAYS JAZZ”: a journey through the great male icons

The first session will feature pianist Juan Robles, a Madrid-based musician with a solid classical background and a versatile career in jazz and modern music.

Under the concept “HE PLAYS JAZZ”, the artist offers a journey through the great male composers and performers who have shaped the history of the genre, exploring their legacy through a contemporary lens.

Trained at the Majadahonda Professional Conservatory of Music and having honed his skills at institutions such as Alfonso X el Sabio University, Robles has taken part in Latin jazz projects and large-scale musical shows.

His style is characterised by an elegant fusion of tradition and modernity, with influences ranging from pop-rock to the most sophisticated jazz. During this performance, he will be joined by a guest singer, creating moments of rapport and dynamic stage presence that will enrich the audience’s experience.

Karla Silva

Karla Silva presents “SHE PLAYS JAZZ”: a tribute to the great female voices

The second session will feature one of the evening’s most special moments, with Karla Silva presenting “SHE PLAYS JAZZ: A Tribute to the Great Voices of Jazz”, an emotional journey through the female voices that have shaped the history of music.

A journey that bridges generations and sensibilities, evoking iconic figures such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Consuelo Velázquez, amongst others.

A tribute to those artists who transformed pain into art, freedom into sound and the soul into music.

The concert will take place in an intimate voice-and-piano format, accompanied by Richie Ferrer on double bass, creating an intimate, elegant and deeply emotional atmosphere.

This concept ties in directly with “SHE”, Karla Silva’s debut album, in which the artist pays tribute to femininity and the maternal figure through original compositions and reinterpretations, establishing an artistic vision that is honest, contemporary and distinctively her own.

A vocalist, pianist and composer of Venezuelan origin based in Spain, Karla Silva stands out for her versatility and a style that fuses jazz, bossa nova, soul and Latin music, establishing herself as one of the most distinctive voices on the current scene.

El Café de La Ópera: live jazz all year round

This special event forms part of El Café de La Ópera’s regular programme, which is firmly committed to live music with jazz sessions every Thursday and Sunday at 7.00 pm, establishing itself as one of the leading venues for enjoying jazz in the centre of Madrid.

An unmissable event for jazz lovers

The celebration of International Jazz Day at El Café de La Ópera will bring together talent, elegance and emotion for a unique evening. An opportunity to discover two high-calibre artistic performances and immerse yourself in a tribute that traces the history of jazz through its great voices, in a dialogue between past and present, between HE and SHE.
