ELM - Día mundial de la música

This iconic Madrid venue, known for its jazz sessions every Thursday and Sunday, hosted a special event to welcome in the summer with two musical themes and signature cocktails on 21 June.

Coinciding with World Music Day and the official start of summer, Café de la Ópera presented an event unlike anything else in the city: “Madrid’s First Great Musical Night of the Summer”, a special event held on 21 June that transformed one of the most iconic venues in central Madrid into a stage where music and cocktails came together in perfect harmony.

The experience was designed as a sensory journey through two jazz-inspired musical atmospheres, each accompanied by an exclusive cocktail inspired by the character and personality of the music.

Guests could choose between two sessions:

  • First session: from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm
  • Second session: from 10.00 pm to midnight

Each session cost 29 euros per person (VAT included) and included:

  • Live jazz performance featuring two jazz musical atmospheres
  • Two themed cocktails (or two non-alcoholic mocktails).

Two atmospheres, two cocktails, one emotional score

The event was structured around two distinct segments, each evoking different emotions and soundscapes of jazz.

OPUS NOCTURNO

7.00 pm – 8.00 pm | 10.00 pm – 11.00 pm

The first part of each session featured an elegant and evocative atmosphere inspired by the most classic, nocturnal jazz. This was paired with a cocktail made with bourbon, red vermouth, Pedro Ximénez and bitters.

“Opus Nocturno” is a composition with smoky undertones and warm woody notes. Elegant, deep and enveloping, like the final piece performed before night falls.

CHROMATIC PULSE

8.00 pm – 9.00 pm | 11.00 pm – midnight

The second part of the experience offered a more contemporary and vibrant energy, inspired by the improvisation and constant evolution of jazz. The cocktail combined white rum, cantaloupe melon, mint, lime, curaçao and coconut water.

“Chromatic Pulse” is a contemporary rhythm of fresh melon, lime, mint and curaçao. Colourful, vibrant and unpredictable, like an improvisation that breaks the rules without losing its harmony.

Music and cocktails: an emotional pairing

With this initiative, El Café de la Ópera offered a different way to celebrate World Music Day, transforming each cocktail into an extension of the jazz listening experience.

“We wanted guests not only to listen to the music, but also to savour it. Every musical atmosphere has its own language, its own rhythm and its own liquid interpretation,” explained the restaurant’s manager.

The evening took place in the elegant surroundings of El Café de la Ópera, situated next to the Teatro Real, a venue with a long-standing connection to live music and renowned for its gastronomic and cultural experiences.

A special event within Café de la Ópera’s regular jazz programme

Although this special edition of World Music Day was designed as a one-off experience to welcome in the summer, it formed part of Café de la Ópera’s firm commitment to live music throughout the year.

The venue regularly hosts its well-established live jazz sessions every Thursday and Sunday at 7.30 pm, making it one of the leading venues for enjoying this genre right in the heart of Madrid.

The event held on 21 June marked an evolution of these regular evenings, transforming them into an immersive experience in which the music stepped off the stage to interact with the cocktails and cuisine. Each session was conceived as a journey through two distinct musical worlds of jazz, accompanied by cocktails created specifically to reflect the character of each musical atmosphere.

With this initiative, Café de la Ópera reaffirmed its commitment to promoting live music and offered a different way to celebrate such a significant occasion as World Music Day.
