Un ejemplo de hospitalidad italiana en la milla de oro de Madrid, espíritu romano en un restaurante de tradición familiar

The Fedeli family invites us to enjoy a unique experience that transports us to the city of Rome and its traditions in one of Madrid’s most fashionable spots, Callejón de Puigcerdá.

In 1865, this location, which today is home to several trendy restaurants in Madrid, was created to house the stables of the nobles and bourgeoisie. Today, it is frequented by lovers of gastronomic traditions and the most sybaritic leisure activities in the capital.

A bit of history

Fifty years ago, this flagship restaurant opened its doors in Rome’s Trastevere neighbourhood. Today, sisters Katiusca and Romina have taken over the restaurant and moved to Madrid to continue the family tradition of fine dining, opening a new location on one of Madrid’s trendiest streets, Calle Jorge Juan. It was their grandfather Romeo who opened the first restaurant in the Italian capital, where they now have several establishments in the heart of the city.

The SottoSopra spirit is unique and remains unchanged in Madrid and Rome. The restaurant has a first floor with space for 40 diners; an upper floor with private rooms, a cellar area for six covers and special meals; and an outdoor space that can accommodate up to 22 guests.

Sottosopra is much more than hospitality; it’s a bridge between the past and the future, celebrating Italian tradition in Madrid. It was born with recipes from past generations, bringing Roman tradition to a more contemporary audience.

Roman Cuisine

SottoSopra’s menu offers traditional dishes linked to Roman cuisine, such as their signature Rossettas, a typical Roman bread filled with various ingredients. Among the highlights are the mini-rosettas with variations of Mortadella from Bologna with truffles and pistachios, and the Crispy Cod Rolls with fresh milk potato cream. Pastas represent the true beauty of Italian food. At the restaurant, the pasta is handmade and filled with the highest quality and freshest ingredients. The house specialty is Capellaccio filled with warm cheese, topped with carbonara sauce and pork cheek. Another star dish is the Tagliatelle with Lamb Ragù and fried artichoke petals.

A Roman restaurant that combines tradition and creativity with time-honored flavors and select Italian products.
