THIS IS THE NEW “PLACE TO BE” IN MALASAÑA
In the heart of Malasaña, on the iconic Corredera Baja de San Pablo, the venue that marked an era at number 18 is back in business: Casa Clavel. Once one of the most legendary bars in this Madrid neighbourhood, it is reopening its doors with a new concept that looks to the future with renewed energy.
This reinvented classic goes one step further and presents its own gastronomic offering, where tradition and modernity come together in a relaxed atmosphere.
Open to the public from Monday to Thursday from 6pm to 2am, Friday and Saturday from 12.30pm to 3am and Sunday from 12.30pm to 2am, it is reborn as a place to eat well, where day and night merge naturally.
A must-visit in the capital for those looking to eat really well.
The newly launched menu at Casa Clavel focuses on fresh, casual cuisine, designed for those who enjoy leisurely dining in good company.
It is a concept that celebrates life’s little pleasures through dishes made with the highest quality ingredients, a careful selection of wines and cocktails with personality, ideal for any time of day, from aperitifs to dinner. Among its essentials are classics such as anchovy gildas, or Russian salad with prawns and mussels, also available in a seafood version with anchovies, perfect for whetting the appetite.
Without a doubt, one of the pillars of this proposal is La Charcutería, with an exquisite selection of cold cuts and cheeses from La Charcutería de Octavio, a family-run shop committed to livestock farmers and small producers. Their carefully prepared platters include everything from Iberian ham, beef jerky and white sausage with mushrooms to pork rinds from Cádiz. In addition, those who wish can create their own cheese platter, a personalised and irresistible option, perfect for pairing with a glass of wine.
As for main courses, the sandwiches make all the difference. Highlights include the Mixto Trufado, with brioche bread, smoked pork shoulder, tartufata, Havarti and Raclette cheese; or the Carrillera Ibérica, with homemade pickles, kimchi mayonnaise and fresh herbs, served on sourdough bread from the Viena Labaguette bakery. They also offer a vegetarian option with escalivada, sun-dried tomato apenade, pickles, spinach and Havarti cheese for those looking for a light bite without compromising on flavour.
Food pairing, a fundamental pillar at Casa Clavel
The wine list stands out for its diversity and careful selection, with a special focus on natural wines and small national producers committed to quality and sustainability. Among them are wines from very contemporary wineries such as Mas Candí, La Nave de los Locos and La Natural. In addition, the selection includes a wide variety of wines from more classic wineries such as Luberri and Torremilanos, for those seeking more traditional options.
The bar, meanwhile, invites you to let yourself go, both to start the experience and to put the finishing touch on it. Its vermouth with a touch of gin and grapefruit, along with spritz, the famous mezcalita, pisco sour, and paloma, are part of a cocktail menu designed to be enjoyed, capable of satisfying both classic and daring palates.
In this new phase, Casa Clavel promises to be one of Madrid’s hotspots this season, becoming the go-to place for those seeking a great atmosphere and an unpretentious but soulful dining experience.
